Five ways technology is changing Learning and Development

Five ways technology is changing Learning and Development by Amber Rolfe Technology is fundamentally shaping the way organisations learnThanks to the development of various e-learning technologies, online learning has become a reality. This makes carrying out continuing professional development (CPD) absolutely vital for LD practitioners who want to keep their skills relevant. We spoke to  Watson Martin Partnership, a leading provider of professional qualifications, to find out five of the key ways technology is changing Learning and Development:The rise of mobile and tablet devices The rise of portable devices has given us a lot: a way to browse social media and chat on-the-go; a platform to enjoy a range of apps; the opportunity to Google the symptoms of every illness we’ve ever had (OK, this one might not be a benefit). But aside from offering a sense of convenience in our recreational lives, mobile and tablet devices have also provided the perfect place for interactive learning content. As materials can now be accessed via a rang e of devices, learners are offered an increased level of autonomy, flexibility, and control. Not only can they choose when and where they study, they can also learn at their own pace. These developments have additionally provided LD practitioners with the foundations they need to better support individual learning processes. The increase in ‘bringing your own device to work’ With an increasing number of employees opting to use their own devices not only at work, but also from home or when working remotely, organisations have come up with new ways to make universal access easier.By creating learning apps and programmes, organisations are able to give individuals direct access to learning materials and resources from any device, which ultimately helps to maximise their workforce’s productivity.LD practitioners also use apps to communicate more effectively with delegates â€" whether it’s to track an event, register its attendance, or provide an online vault of learning materials.  The gamification of learning Chances are, you’ve had your fair share of mild addictions to mobile games (see: Plants Vs. Zombies/ Candy Crush/Pokemon GO/all of the above). With the wide variety of mobile and tablet games that are now available, it’s no surprise that the learning and development industry have utilised their popularity. From gamified micro courses that help employees get to grips with procedures or software, to educational apps that teach through quizzes, videos, flashcards, and memory games â€" the gamification of learning materials provides a fast and easy way to digest information.By linking games with learning activities, organisations can tap into people’s desires of socialising, being rewarded, and making choices â€" which consequently makes them more likely to engage with the content and apply what they’ve learnt practically. The opportunity to interact virtually Don’t understand a question? Working on a group project? Just need to vent? No problem.Whe ther it’s to assist the communication of virtual teams, or to build an online learning community, the rise of social media and other communication tools have played a big part in supporting learners. It offers the perfect way to connect groups of people who are getting to grips with the same topic â€" whether they’re taking an online or classroom course, carrying out an independent learning venture, or doing work-based learning and development.By creating online groups or utilising hashtags, instructors, LD professionals, and learners are able to share and access a range of information; from quizzes and questionnaires, to images and tips.Because social media doesn’t need to be a distraction (as long as you use it right).Top 5 â€" Desktop distractionsThe assessment of progress As a result of advancements in tech, tracking your development has never been easier. In the past, feedback was only able to be given at the end of a learning intervention, consisting of a review â€" rather than an on-the-spot assessment. With new online tools, learners can benefit from a better monitoring system that tracks their learning as they go.This means learners receive a more personalised, tailored and effective approach in their e-learning and online modules. And with more formative types of assessments, self-reflection and improvement is much easier.Personalised feedback can also be provided if needed, which allows the learner to immediately identify and reflect on their learning. Why study with Watson Martin Partnership?Watson Martin Partnership is a leading provider of professional qualifications and in-company training programmes. Not only do they offer 24/7 support via Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) with access to podcasts, webinars, videos and learning materials, they also have above average pass rates on their professional exams.Other benefits of studying with  Watson Martin Partnership  include:One-to-one support for all qualification programmesModules taught by in dustry expertsFlexible start dates, durations and locationsA range of payment options, with interest free monthly payment  plans for self-fundersOnline, classroom and distance learning optionsCIPD Learning Development Certificate Level 3 This Foundation CIPD qualification  will enhance your understanding of a range of LD learning practices and specialisms. 10 Tips for Hiring the Best Employees CareerMetis.com

10 Tips for Hiring the Best Employees Photo Credit â€" Pixabay.comAn old proverb says that for a woodcutter to cut a tree, he must first sharpen the axe. Applying it to the corporate world, we can also say that, for a company to succeed, it needs to “sharpen the axe” â€" that is, to hire efficient employees. However, finding and attracting professional talent is no easy task for small and medium-sized businesses. If that’s your case, how do you hire good employees? In this post, we have separated some tips to help you with this process. Follow and check!1) Place Your Company in the ShowcaseevalInstitutions that design good visibility for the brand itself often attract excellent professionals, and an example of this is Google. Spreading to the four winds its internal policy, the corporation creates in the workers the desire to be contracted by it.evalSo try to follow that recipe. To do this, use social networks and disclose the backstage of your institution, share photos and videos of events, the company’s environm ent or even small interviews with employees, showing how it is to work in the company.2) Set the Desired Professional ProfileThis step may seem very obvious, but it is still easily forgotten by recruiters. After all, how can you apply this suggestion in your selective process?Review the following questions: What kind of professional am I looking for? What activity should it perform? How much experience in the job market should you have? What school level will be required? What qualities will be essential for a person to conquer this vacancy? In addition, some companies have implemented, through software, intelligent recruitment, and selection system. Thus, they manage to cross information about several candidates and receive an indication of the professional sought.3) Plan the Selection ProcessMake thorough planning of how the selection process will be carried out because the lack of this elaboration affects both the reputation of the company and the candidates and makes it more diff icult to hire appropriate employees. For this, there are numerous selection and recruitment methods: Interviews, written tests, group dynamics, etc. And, at the time of choosing one of these forms of recruitment, consider whether the chosen method complies with the goal of hiring. For example, would written tests help the recruiter choose a good programmer for his institution? Wouldn’t it be better to have a practical assessment that will test the knowledge of this professional?evalAlso, think about what you want to extract from your candidate. Maybe you want a professional who has enthusiasm, for example. In this case, a group dynamic can help you identify this ability among the evaluated.4) Use Social Networks to Hire EmployeesCan social media help in the process of hiring workers? The answer is simple: yes, and a lot. Think, for example, on LinkedIn, which enables you to do a thorough search for professionals. In the user profile are academic information, professional experiences, personal and linguistic skills, recommendations of companies in which the professional work, etc. Now, do you want to know more about a candidate’s personal life? Facebook and Twitter can help. In these media, people reveal a lot about their lifestyle, their type of personality, the subjects they are interested in, and even how they interact with others.evalSo, take advantage of this open window to better understand the pros and know if they are the type of person you want to enter into your company’s environment.5) Realize Whether the Applicant Values TeamworkevalFor sure, in the process of hiring employees, you will find excellent resumes, but they should not obscure an essential attribute for a professional: the ability to work as a team.So if you have to choose, prefer a candidate with fewer professional qualifications to an individual with many graduations, but that does not relate well with others. After all, changing a difficult personality is more laborious than encouragi ng someone to qualify better. In addition, a worker who owns this attribute will contribute to a pleasant climate within the organization and stimulate the productivity of the entire team.6) Value the IndicationsEven with all the modernity deployed in companies, the old indication is still very advantageous. But why is this important? Well, your collaborators already know the company’s internal culture, so they can indicate people who fit it.In addition, this practice extends the company’s chances of hiring efficient people, since its employees know that a bad indication may stain their names in the company.7) Offer AdvantagesWhat can your company offer benefits to attract good professionals? That’s important, too. Your company may, for example, grant an additional day off for employees who fulfill their weekly work goal.Yet another reward can be to present a trip or discounts on entertainment venues for the employee who stand out during the month.8) Ask for ReferencesEven tho ugh I have observed the profile of the candidate on LinkedIn and read several compliments of his work by former bosses, it is important to contact one of them and ask for more information.evalDuring the conversation, simple and straightforward questions are the most effective. You may question, for example, whether the trader had a performance above or below the average of the company’s employees. In addition, it is also worth knowing in which areas he stood out, and why he hung up on the company. Such questions will make the contacted manager give more accurate information about the applicant.9) Bet on Young PeopleIn general, younger professionals have less business experience, but they can be excellent hires that will inflate the productivity of their institution. After all, this audience is easier to educate according to the culture of the company and is usually full of innovative ideas, which were fertilized by the academic environment. To attract young people, your company can p artner with colleges or educational centers and assess which students have the desired potential for hiring.eval10) Watch out for a Re-contractingCan you remember a good employee who shut himself out of his company in search of a better opportunity? What do you think about trying to rehire him? Now, you may be wondering what would make this professional want to go back to your company. To do so, show what has changed in the institution since it came out and offer advantages â€" an increase in salary, for example â€" to consider this proposal. If accepted, the selection process will be less laborious and more assertive, because it is an individual already known by the company.Anyway, as we have seen throughout this post, there are several practices that you can use to hire high-performance employees. And by adopting them, you can get a reliable team for your business. So, did you like the post? Did our tips help you understand how to hire talented employees? So, enjoy sharing them on yo ur social networks!

Reasons Why Your Executive Job Search Could be Taking Longer than Expected

Reasons Why Your Executive Job Search Could be Taking Longer than Expected Many executives don’t have to look for a new job very often. So if it’s been several years since you last conducted a job search, things could have changed drastically. Visiting a professional resume writing service should be your first step, just to make sure your resume is formatted properly and doesn’t have any mistakes. Some job seekers are still surprised it takes them so long to find a job. Here are some of common reasons why job searches take longer than expected and how you can expedite the process. Not Targeting Effectively Before even writing an effective resume, you have to target the industry or specific employer you want to send a resume to. Your resume has to demonstrate a certain amount of value you bring to the table, so if you don’t know what a company needs, you won’t be able to show your value clearly. Target a handful of companies and research them thoroughly, including each job description, so you know exactly what they need. The hiring manager will be able to identify how serious you are about the position based on the information in your resume. Exhausting Efforts On Job Boards Too many professionals make the mistake of spending a significant amount of time applying for jobs through job boards. While jobs are plentiful on there, the chances of you getting hired through one are slim. Instead, spend your time networking with other professionals through networking events or even LinkedIn. The majority of senior-level positions aren’t going to be posted online, so networking is your best option for tapping into the hidden job market and landing a job quicker. Not Focusing On Your Personal Brand Any executive resume writer will tell you a quality resume will only get you so far. Your personal brand is an essential component when it comes to getting hired. You have to assume hiring managers are going to Google search your name, so it’s highly recommended for you to do the same and see what the results show. Clean up anything you don’t want to be visible to ensure your online presence reflects who you are as a person. Making Mistakes In Your Resume Spending a lot of time writing an effective resume is valuable, but even minor mistakes can hurt your chances of landing an interview. Have an executive resume writer tweak your resume and proofread it thoroughly to ensure there are no mistakes damaging your efforts. It’s easier than you think to omit information or overlook a critical typographical error, so make sure your resume is spotless before distributing it to potential employers. At Professional Resume Services, we see ourselves as more than just a professional resume writing service. We also believe we are a resource for executives to come to when they need to tweak their job searching efforts or even just need advice at any stage of their job search. A resume is only one part of landing a job, so contact us today if you feel like your searching efforts are taking longer than expected.
